🌎 James leads Colombia to victory over Argentina in hard-fought qualifier

CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers resume on Tuesday night with a handful of big clashes. Here’s what’s happened so far.

Colombia – Argentina 2:1

Goalscorers: Mosquera 25′, James (P) 60′; Gonzalez 48′

In a rematch of the 2024 Copa América final, Colombia took revenge by defeating Argentina in a World Cup qualifier.

Argentina had largely been in control of qualifying so far, but Colombia struck first and went into the break with a lead thanks to a well-taken short corner. James Rodríguez was able to play Yerson Mosquera in the box for a thunderous header.

The reigning world champions and Copa America winners did not manage a single shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.

However, it didn’t take Argentina long to fight their way back into the game, as Nico González made a fantastic run and equalised just minutes after the restart.

But the equaliser did not last long. Just twelve minutes later, Colombia regained the lead through a penalty from James, putting the champions under pressure again.

The hosts did not let their lead slip away a second time and secured three important points, reducing Argentina’s lead at the top of the table to just two points.
