Even before the backdrop was discussed, it was clear that the Olympic Games in Paris would be a spectacle.

The world’s best athletes twist, contort, jump and dive in ways most of us can’t even imagine. Combined with the backdrop of one of the world’s most famous cities, Paris and its surroundings, it becomes a photographer’s dream.

Here are some of the best images from Day 11 of the Olympics on Tuesday, from the swimming pool to the track to the tough individual competition.

Aquatics have produced some of the most spectacular images of the Paris Games, and this was again the case on Tuesday with the synchronized swimming and sailing competitions.
