2nd trophy for BLACKPINK star

2nd trophy for BLACKPINK star

Two years after Lisa and her BLACKPINK bandmates rocked the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, the group’s youngest member returned to take on the VMAs once again. This time, she wasn’t just about representing BLACKPINK, but also about solidifying her solo career as she won the Best K-Pop award for the second time.

From her first steps at New York’s UBS Arena, Lisa’s arrival at the 2024 MTV VMAs made a statement as she graced the red carpet in a custom embroidered Mugler corset dress from the brand’s creative director Casey Cadwallader’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.

At the VMAs, Lisa first took the stage for a fiery performance of her latest solo hits “New Woman” and “Rockstar.” Dressed in a striking red leather outfit, the Thai superstar wowed the crowd (including TikTok star Addison Rae, who sang along to “Rockstar” according to audience video footage) and debuted her first new songs since launching her record label LLOUD and signing with RCA Records.

But Lisa’s most meaningful moment of the night was arguably when she returned to the stage to accept the coveted Best K-Pop Award for “Rockstar.” Presented by MTV legend and original TRL Host Carson Daly acknowledged the award for her breakthrough as an artist in her own right, especially in the face of strong competition from Jung Kook of “Seven” featuring Latto of BTS, “Smoothie” of NCT Dream, “Deja Vu” of Tomorrow X Together, “LALALA” of Stray Kids and “Super Shy” of NewJeans.

In her typically shy but always smiling manner, Lisa thanked everyone for the award in English and even included a little Thai in her speech.

“‘Rockstar’ was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘Lalisa’, so this is very special to me,” she told the cheering arena. “Thank you to the RCA family and Team LLOUD and BLINKs and Lilies all over the world,” referring to both BLACKPINK fans and the nickname for fans of Lisa herself.

While she already broke new ground when she became the first woman and first solo artist to win Best K-Pop in 2022, Lisa made history again by becoming the second artist ever to win the Best K-Pop category more than once. The 27-year-old remains the only female solo artist to do so.

Lisa’s win in 2024 further cements her status as a global force, breaking boundaries in both K-pop and pop music in general.
