Three armed men raided the Emporio Latino grocery store in the Mayfair neighborhood on Saturday night, assaulting one of the three women working there before fleeing with cash and the employees’ cell phones, police said.

Philadelphia police said they were called at 9:10 p.m. to a robbery at the store in the 2800 block of Tyson Avenue, which describes itself as “Where the taste of Brazil is at home in the heart of America.”

The women told police they had left the store through a back door when they were approached by the three men and forced to go back inside. One of the women was attacked, police said, but did not provide further details. The men then fled with the phones and an undetermined amount of cash from a safe.

They drove away in a silver sedan and could not be arrested as of Sunday afternoon, police said.

The employees – two are 37 and one is 42 – were able to find their phones several blocks from the store at 2900 Princeton Street, police said. The woman who was attacked was not injured and did not require medical attention, according to police.

A representative of the store was not available for comment on Sunday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153 or submit a tip anonymously by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477).
