Why Jeremy Allen White was left out of the 2024 Emmys, according to producers

The producers of the 2024 Emmy Awards talk about the mysterious, censored moment during Jeremy Allen White’s speech.

Accepting his award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for The bearthe 33-year-old actor was censored for apparently using a swear word on stage. Now the production company behind TV’s biggest night, Jesse Collins Entertainment, reveals that the word in question was “Jesus Christ” and explained to Variety why the decision to remove it was out of their hands.

“We don’t have control over the button and we don’t hear it,” Dionne Harmon, president of Jesse Collins Entertainment, told the outlet. “We’re on a delay, so we’ll see what happens.”

“We don’t have a feed to the actual show. We don’t have the button for that,” she added.

On Sunday, September 15, White was honored for his portrayal of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in The bear for the second time in a row.

“Thank you so much,” he said as he walked onto the stage. “My heart is pounding in my throat.”

He then thanked his co-stars and told them, “I want us to be part of each other’s lives forever.”

“This show changed my life,” said White. “It gave me the belief that change is possible, that change is possible if you are able to reach out, you are truly never alone. I thank this show.”

Elsewhere in his speech on Sunday, White thanked his fellow nominees, including Only murders in the building Co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin as well as D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai from Reservation dogsLarry David from Curb your enthusiasm and Matt Berry from What we do in the shadows.

Part of The bearThe continued success of is due to the chemistry of the cast. White spoke about the bond he has built with his co-star Ayo Edebiri in a June 2024 interview with Vanity Fair.

“We really have fun together, on and off camera,” White said of the actress. “I hope that kind of thing shines through between Carm and Syd on camera.”

White added: “Syd always manages to deliver… I don’t know, something different than Carmy, and she’s usually right. And I think Ayo is usually right, too.”
