Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas shopped for luxury clothing in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon as his agency faced criticism over its response to the devastating floods in North Carolina and Georgia.

Mayorkas, who was impeached by the House of Representatives earlier this year over his handling of the border crisis, was discovered by police Washington Free Beacon I stroll through the men’s department of Sid Mashburn, a luxury men’s clothing store, surrounded by security guards. Mayorkas said earlier this month that FEMA “does not have enough funding for the remainder of the hurricane season.” His comments sparked outrage among Republicans, who pointed out that the agency had spent hundreds of millions of dollars housing and caring for migrants.

“The real story here is that the Biden-Harris administration has, from day one, spurned the interests of the American people and sought hundreds of millions of FEMA dollars each year, particularly for illegal immigrants,” said Rep. Mark Green (R., Tennessee). .), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said in an Oct. 4 statement.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R, S.C.) suggested Friday that Republicans could impeach Mayorkas again over his handling of Hurricane Helene.

“I already voted to impeach @SecMayorkas once,” Mace wrote on X. “Who thinks we have to do it again?”
