Governor Wes Moore announced Tuesday that BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport set a new record of 2.6 million passengers in June 2024, an 11% increase from June 2023. Fiscal year 2024 was also a record year, with over 27 million passengers.

According to BWI: “The continued success of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport supports our efforts to make Maryland more competitive by increasing tourism, attracting businesses, stimulating economic growth and creating jobs throughout our state,” said Governor Moore. “This record-breaking performance underscores our strength and our administration remains committed to improving convenient and efficient airport travel that continues to position Maryland as a gateway to the nation and the world.”

BWI Marshall Airport generates $11.3 billion in total revenue. The airport and its visitors create and support more than 107,000 jobs throughout Maryland and the region. The airport offers approximately 300 nonstop departures daily to more than 80 domestic and international destinations, making it the busiest airport in the Capital Region.

“These new records reflect the strong demand for air travel and the resilience of the aviation industry,” said Ricky Smith, executive director and chief executive officer of BWI Marshall Airport. “Our airport has a growing route network and growth in leisure and business travel.”

BWI Marshall has undertaken several large, high-profile capital projects that will provide new services and amenities to passengers while providing critical infrastructure to support partner airlines. Work includes the Concourse A/B Connector and Baggage Handling System – the largest capital project in the airport’s history – which will create a direct connection between Concourses A and B; a new, advanced baggage handling system; expanded seating areas at passenger gates; new restrooms and additional food and beverage and retail space.
