Tracker’s Justin Hartley and Sofia Pernas tease Billie’s return (and a big reveal) in Episode 3

Colter Shaw will be reunited with a familiar face in the Sunday, October 27 episode trackerwhile Sofia Pernas reprises her role as season 1 rival Billie Matalon.

Although CBS has only revealed that Billie needs Colter to help find a missing high school athlete, real-life spouses Pernas and Justin Hartley reveal to TVLine that their latest appearance has an emotional impact and will better explain why these dueling reward seekers share a common cause that transcends their particular profession.

“We get a little insight into her backstory,” says Pernas. “I feel like we broke bread in 106, and she feels comfortable in 203” — she feels comfortable sharing more of herself with Colter, who hasn’t necessarily been someone she’s close to would entrust confidential information. “That icebreaker moment (on the phone in Season 1, Episode 6) gave her some comfort to be able to say, ‘I need some help,’ and in the third episode she asks him for help.”

“Of course he’s skeptical,” Hartley emphasizes, because when audiences first meet Billie, we learn that she once betrayed him on a mission together and claimed the reward money for herself. But this time Billie’s plea is “legitimate.” Along the way, “you learn a lot about her, about her childhood, and it gets pretty intense. It’s a very sad story, but also a story of triumph and perseverance.”

Pernas adds, “You understand in many ways why she is who she is, and that comes from her mother.” And who knows more about deep-seated family trauma than Colter Shaw?

“You have a beautiful scene where she really opens up to him in a way that makes you…” Hartley pauses, then turns to Pernas: “The way you played it was beautiful. Your performance suggests that you have never shared (this information) with anyone, always.” And we learn that Pernas played it exactly that way. “In my eyes, she has buried it so deeply, and she goes through life with this wall that she builds,” explains Pernas. “I don’t think she’d just tell someone that over coffee, so I wanted it to be that way so much more.”
