PHILADELPHIA – Saquon Barkley can also make it through the air.

The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a fast start in their home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 20-yard shot from Jalen Hurts to Barkley with 10:22 left in the first quarter.

A big, special teams play set the stage when Sydney Brown released the ball on a punt return by Austin Trammell, which was recovered in Jacksonville territory by Kelee Ringo.

Two plays later, Hurts dropped back and fired a ball down the right sideline, quickly hitting Barkley for the score.

Barkley entered the day second in rushing yards (766) and yards per game (109.4) as well as five touchdowns. He has now scored two touchdowns this year after hitting an 18-yarder in the opening game against the Green Bay Packers.

Barkley’s result marked the Eagles’ first points in the first quarter of the entire season. Going into the game, they were the only team in the league that hadn’t scored a goal in the first frame.

Then Barkley stunned the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field when he hit a reverse hurdle from a Jacksonville Jaguars defender early in the second quarter.

The start of the game was stunning, as Barkley took a pass from Jalen Hurts in the flat, deflected a tackle, and then sent linebacker Devin Lloyd to his knees with a spin move that left Lloyd grasping for air. But that was just the appetizer.

Barkley then stepped up so his back was to cornerback Jarrian Jones, rose up and blind-passed Jones for another 5 yards for what turned out to be a 14-yard gain on third-and-six.

Fans stood and looked at each other in shock after witnessing a game that has few parallels in NFL history.

Barkley found the end zone again late in the first half for a 19-yard score on a 3rd-and-17.
