New Orleans Airport warns travelers about long lines at TSA | News

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is advising travelers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time on Monday due to long waits at security.

Photos provided to The Times-Picayune Monday morning show dozens of travelers waiting to go through security and to their terminals. Lines of people stretched to the second level of MSY.

A New Orleans airport spokesman referred questions about the cause of the delays to the Transportation Security Administration.

TSA spokeswoman Jessica Mayle said the agency is doing “everything in its power to minimize delays,” including deploying explosive-sniffing dog teams by 1 p.m., allowing travelers to store electronic devices in bags and shoes.

This is the second long line warning that New Orleans Airport has issued in the last week. The airport issued a similar warning on Friday, urging passengers to arrive two to three hours before their departure time.

The TSA announced last month that, ahead of the holiday season and Super Bowl LIX, it was introducing new technology at the New Orleans airport that would automate the screening process and allow passengers to store more items in their bags. The TSA has previously stated that these changes will result in shorter lines at its checkpoint.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
