Todd Bowles’ decision not to play two-man against the Chiefs confused NFL fans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were defeated in overtime by the Kansas City Chiefs and didn’t even have a chance to own the football in overtime.

Baker Mayfield misjudged the coin toss, which led to Patrick Mahomes and Co. marching down the field and winning the game with a Kareem Hunt touchdown run on the first and only possession of overtime.

Of course, overtime could have been avoided entirely if Todd Bowles hadn’t made a decision after the Buccaneers scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Instead of going for a two-point conversion and having a chance to tie the game in regulation, Bowles opted for a PAT to tie the score at 24.

This decision ultimately proved costly as Tampa Bay’s offense never touched the football again. Mahomes and the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown with 27 seconds left in regulation, but they didn’t fail in overtime either.

Many NFL fans, and even Troy Aikman on the ESPN broadcast, expressed dissatisfaction with Bowles’ decision to play it safe.

Apparently, Bowles’ decision wasn’t exactly popular with NFL fans, who felt that going for the two points was wiser than putting the ball back in Mahomes’ hands. In retrospect they say they were right.
