DoorDash Director Edward Buckles launches campaign to support people facing food insecurity

DoorDash is showing how home delivery can help remove barriers for people facing food insecurity with a heartfelt new campaign for Project DASH, the company’s initiative to support food banks, food pantries and other community organizations. Directed by Edward Buckles (Buck) Jr. of Greenpoint Pictures in collaboration with DoorDash’s in-house creative studio, Superette, “The Food Chain” films the partnership between DoorDash and hunger relief organizations that work tirelessly to remove barriers to food access.

DoorDash’s Project DASH recently celebrated a milestone by delivering more than 100 million meals to people experiencing food insecurity across the United States. This achievement was made possible through partnerships with organizations like Meals on Wheels America, United Way Worldwide, and Feeding America. This campaign highlights the dedicated efforts of these organizations and sends a powerful message: ending hunger is a collective effort, and together we can make a difference.

These films aim to bring these stories into the spotlight and normalize asking for help by tracing the journey of a meal from the farm to a table in need. This film follows the life of a little girl and her family, starting with her eating the last orange in the fruit bowl. The story then shifts to a farmer picking oranges, interspersed with scenes of family life, until the oranges are finally packaged at a local food bank and delivered to the family’s home.

“Growing up in New Orleans, I am very familiar with food insecurity,” said Buckles. “Many neighborhoods I lived in while growing up were food deserts. Especially after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, not only were our homes and belongings destroyed, but some of the few grocery stores that existed in the neighborhood were destroyed. It takes a village to address issues like food insecurity in local communities, so I can support any project that allows me to shine a spotlight on those who give back. I want to make sure we do this project justice by making a film that explores Project DASH’s food journey while ensuring the film feels authentic and intentional.”

We hope this nonprofit video, “Best Work You May Never See,” will actually be seen by many – because it can help save lives.

Recent statistics show that drug overdose deaths in the United States have declined slightly in 2023, but the crisis is far from over. Illegally manufactured fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, is increasingly found in counterfeit prescription drugs and illegal drugs, putting many young people at risk.

In response, the Ad Council has released life-saving PSAs, including this one that teaches viewers how to use naloxone (also known as Narcan and ReVive), which is available over the counter and can reverse an opioid overdose. These PSAs, developed in collaboration with R/GA and supported by YouTube, are part of the Ad Council’s partnership with the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The new tutorials – directed by Damien Drake through production company Versus – provide young people with essential step-by-step instructions on how to administer naloxone nasal spray to someone who has suffered an opioid overdose.
