The Hawaii Department of Transportation advises highway users that workers will complete striping of new speed limits on Honoapi’ilani Highway (Route 30) near Maui Tropical Plantation and Kolo Place.

Work will last Monday, August 19, through Wednesday, August 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During work, lane shifts may occur or one lane in each direction may be closed. Closures will be limited to a 1,000-foot section within the project boundaries. Traffic in both directions will be maintained using alternating traffic control (two-way traffic) in the remaining lane. Workers will direct traffic.

Speed ​​limits are located at the following locations on Honoapi’ilani Highway:

  1. Mile 0.45, near Wailuku Elementary School, near Keanu Street and Kolo Place
  2. Mile 2.09, near Wai’olu Place and Pilikana Street
  3. Mile 2.27, near Wilikona Place and Waikō Road
  4. Mile 2.38, near Lehuapueo Place and Wilikona Place
  5. Mile 2.55, near Maui Tropical Plantation, near Olo Place and ‘Ololī Place

Honoapi’ilani Highway near Wailuku Elementary School is a school zone with a speed limit of 20 mph. The speed limit at the remaining locations with speed limit signs is 30 mph.

HDOT installs traffic calming measures such as raised crosswalks, speed bumps and speed humps to increase pedestrian safety by physically reminding drivers to reduce their speed when entering residential and school areas.
