Montgomery Parks announces hours and events for Labor Day weekend

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks announces Labor Day weekend hours and events, including extending Open Parkways through Monday, September 2, 2024, for the holiday weekend and end of the summer season.

  • Open through Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information on admission prices, visit SplashandGolf.org.

Black Hill Boats and Lake Needwood Boats

Open Parkways Schedule

The Open Parkways will be extended during Labor Day weekend. During this time, the parkways will be open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles.

  • Beach trip between Knowles Avenue and Cedar Lane (3.5 km)
  • Friday, August 30, 9 a.m. to Monday, September 2, 6 p.m.
  • Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West
  • Friday, August 30, 9 a.m. to Monday, September 2, 6 p.m.

*Please note: Gate closures are scheduled to be completed at the times listed above. Parkways will begin reopening at the times listed above, however this process may take up to 30 minutes.

Additional facilities are open on Labor Day weekend

Below you will find a selection of the establishments that are open over the holiday weekend.

  • Parks, hiking trails, gardens, nature trails and outdoor natural playgrounds, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, outdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts* are open daily from sunrise to sunset. (*Select outdoor courts are available for rental.)
  • The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and the street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park can be reserved or, if not reserved, will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
  • Picnic shelters and campfire sites can be rented at several locations.
  • Wheaton Indoor Tennis
  • Driving range in South Germantown
  • Little Bennett Campsite
  • Cabin John Miniature Railroad (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Wheaton Miniature Railroad and Carousel (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • The Brookside Gardens grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset, the Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Conservatory is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Josiah Henson Museum and Park, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. (park open sunrise to sunset)
  • Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park Museum & Visitor Center: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.; Manor tours: Saturday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. (Park grounds and trails open sunrise to sunset)
