In a scene that can only be described as outrageous unpleasantVice-presidential candidate JD Vance made an unplanned and awkward appearance at Holt’s Sweet Shop in Valdosta, Georgia on Thursday. The visit of the Senator from Ohio, who had actually planned to buy some doughnuts for his campaign Crew before a speech, quickly developed into an embarrassing episode that Social Media hum.
An embarrassing encounter
The scene took place when Vance, 40, entered the local Donut Shopto support a small business and maybe charm a few local voters. His attempt at casual interaction, however, fell flat when the store employee asked not to be filmed. Vance, seemingly undeterred, instructed the press to exclude her from their footage before introducing himself with a big smile.
“I’m JD Vance, and I’m running for Vice President,” he said, his enthusiasm not quite matching the woman’s terse response: “OK.”

When Vance inquired about the business and asked how long employees had been working there, he received only terse answers. The employees, visibly disinterested, assembled a “random selection” of two dozen doughnuts, which Vance carefully inspected, commenting on the selection of glazed, sprinkled and cinnamon rolls. The exchange, captured on video, left many viewers wincing in embarrassment.

Social media storm: JD Vance’s doughnut debacle
The doughnut shop incident has since gone viral, drawing harsh criticism and ridicule on social media. Users on X (formerly Twitter) have mocked Vance’s clumsy actions, highlighting in their comments the discrepancy between his polished political persona and the uncomfortable reality of visiting the shop.
“JD Vance had a very embarrassing visit to a Georgia donut shop earlier. Trust us, it’s worse than you think,” Meidas Touch tweeted, sharing the now-famous video. Other users complained about the cringe factor, with one commenting, “I’m JD Vance… I’m running for Vice President… the woman has no idea who he is and is just trying to do her job.”

Journalist Aaron Rupar echoed the sentiment, saying, “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to smile again after watching this video,” while another user mocked the campaign’s attempt to overshadow the success of the Democratic National Convention: “This is as ridiculous as trying to get JD Vance to order doughnuts without his face falling apart in shock.”

Election campaign: From donuts to debate
After the doughnut, Vance’s day continued with a visit to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, where he was briefed on local issues related to illegal drugs and firearms. The day’s events culminated in a rally where Vance, along with his running mate Donald Trump, attacked Democrats’ stances on border security and immigration.
In his speech, Vance criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her handling of border issues, accusing her of contributing to drug problems and allowing illegal immigration. The Republicans’ focus on immigration is aimed at swaying voters in key swing states such as Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, where recent polls suggest a closer race.
