While the city is more diverse than its neighborhoods, downtown Ann Arbor is a hub of activity for all ages.

The calendar is packed with events, including the Ann Arbor Summer Festival with concerts, film screenings and a circus, the Ann Arbor Art Fair which takes up 30 blocks of the city, and the annual LGBTQ+ Pride weekend. The streets are lined with a diverse selection of over 400 restaurants, with many international options as well as a large farm-to-table movement thanks to local farms and farmers markets.

There are 162 parks throughout the city, including the Matthaei Botanical Garden and the Nichols Arboretum. There are also numerous other opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding on the Huron River and mountain biking at the 20,000-acre Waterloo Recreation Area.
