Formerly celebrity-owned vegetarian restaurant in Koreatown reopens, adds meat to new menu ~ LA TACO

Olivia reopened in Koreatown this week with a new look, and Danny Oh, Mario Alberto and Anderson .Paak’s restaurant has added some non-vegetarian dishes to its still predominantly vegetarian menu.

These dishes include crispy chicken with oyster mushrooms, homemade pickles and aji amarillo, spaghetti in white sauce with mushroom bacon, fried olives with truffle honey, Aleppo chili and whipped macadamia ricotta and the “Anderson Pizza” with homemade kimchi, Gruyère, Beemster Gouda and jalapeño.

Marelle by award-winning chef and Santa Monica OG Raphael Lunetta is now open at Sandbourne Santa Monica, just steps from the sand.

So you can enjoy the ocean breeze and beach views while enjoying farmer’s market fare like calamari with saffron marinara and Fresno chili, chicken wings glazed with mezcal, chili and honey from the on-property beehives, a Snake River Farms burger with aged cheddar, jumbo lump crab cakes with king prawns, Ora King salmon tacos with pineapple tomatillo salsa, and herb-roasted chicken with stone-milled polenta, summer peaches and grilled chicken jus with lemon and turmeric.

Or sit back and enjoy a Honey Bee cocktail with mezcal, yuzu and lavender honey, an Oaxacan Bianco or a glass of Chardonnay from the Valle de Guadalupe while listening to the crashing surf and screams on the beach.

The problem: It’s hot.

The other problem: they could be higher.

The possible solution: cannabis-infused* ice lollies from Swifts Edibles, which come in raspberry, peach and lemonade flavors and each contain 10 mg of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). What they don’t have, however, is high fructose corn syrup!

They are also available in packs of two and ten and can be frozen at home or used in liquid tincture form to spice up a drink. They cost between $6 and $17 in local pharmacies.

Rumples Kitchen, a creative soul food and barbecue truck, plans to stop by the Gold Room in Echo Park this Saturday afternoon.

There’s pulled pork al pastor in house-made guajillo sauce, slow-cooked oxtails with garlic cotija sauce in taco and slider form, baked and fried chicken wings, prime brisket chili, and sides like mac and cheese and yucca fries.

Chef Jonathan Garcia’s modern Mexican pop-up restaurant La Novia is coming to La Sabina Wine Bar in Culver City tonight. A small a la carte menu promises scallop tartare tostadas with chicatana ants and avocado, smoked kampachi carrot aguachile with chile pasilla mix, quesabirria tacos with duck and queso Oaxaca, and vanilla bean flan with Kaluga hybrid caviar.

MAYWOOD

Emian Burgers, known for its smash burgers, will take a new approach this Sunday in Maywood, making Ensenada-style seafood tacos. Both fish and shrimp tacos will be served with chiles güeros and will cost $4 for the former and $5 for the latter, or less if you buy them in bulk.
