Immobilize is the first spell players receive when facing the first boss Black Myth: Wukong after the intro boss. Immobilize can stun even the biggest bosses and has an entire skill tree that can be upgraded to make the spell even more effective.

One of the first upgrades players can get for Immobilize is Evanescence, which can be a risky upgrade depending on the opponent. Evanescence requires perfect timing to land; that’s exactly how it works.

How Evanescence works in Black Myth: Wukong

  • The second upgrade along the left path of Immobilize.
  • 1 spark is required to unlock.
  • Just one level.

Evanescence occurs when Players can time the immobilization exactly at the moment the opponent hits the playerwith an even stricter timer than a perfect dodge. Although the in-game description says it takes effect when attacking, it can only happen one second before the player hits the ground. This increases the risk because you have to time the spell to the exact moment before the attack.

It is easier to land slow swings against larger bosses as you can dodge first before trying to land the perfect Immobilize to trigger Evanescence without risking getting hit if you time it right. Usually an enemy will glow gold when Immobilize hits them, but Evanescence gives them a silver shimmer instead if it lands correctly.

Players will know they have landed Evanescence because the Immobilize spell is Backflip animation that also slows down time slightly to show that you’ve used the ability correctly. Landing Evanescence is the same as Immobilize, but it also causes the player to deal more damage and the effects last longer. Timing Evanescence takes some practice, and it’s better to be too early and still immobilize the opponent than to be too late and get hit before the spell takes effect. It’s also useful to know how to regenerate mana to ensure you can keep trying to land Evanescence in longer fights.

Is Evanescence a worthwhile upgrade?

Evanescence will take some time to get used to, but its best selling point is that it’s just an add-on. If you mess up the perfect timing, it can usually still result in immobilizing your opponent, which is a very powerful spell, even stronger than Rock Solid. Evanescence is also much easier to land against bigger bosses with more exaggerated wind-up moves that are easy to read and large weapons to help you find the perfect time to cast the spell.
