ServSafe, TAP certification courses for food safety managers are offered

MERCER, Pa. – Penn State Extension offers online food safety manager certification courses from ServSafe and TAP.

The ServSafe Food Safety Manager course will be held at the Penn State Extension Mercer County office, 463 North Perry Highway. The course will be held on September 5 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exam begins on September 12 at noon.

In this in-person course, taught by certified ServSafe instructors, participants will learn how to prevent food contamination by properly receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, cooling and serving food, and how to properly disinfect food service establishments.

Upon completion of the course and passing the multiple-choice exam with a score of 70% or higher, participants will receive a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate, valid for five years.

The $165 course fee covers the cost of the latest edition of the ServSafe Manager book, exam, answer sheet and study materials. Participants should register HERE or call 877-345-0691 by August 30.

The TAP Food Safety Manager online certification course helps food managers, chefs, caterers, cooks, health officials and inspectors prepare for a Food Protection Manager exam such as ServSafe that meets the regulatory guidelines for a certified Food Protection Manager. The online portion can be taken at any time, but the exam is in person and proctored at a scheduled location.

Upon completion of the online course and passing the proctored multiple-choice exam with a score of 70% or higher, participants will receive a Food Protection Manager certificate that meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s requirements for food safety certification. This certificate is valid for five years.

The online course is self-paced, can be started anytime during the year, and must be completed within 180 days of enrollment. The course fee is $145. Register HERE or call 877.345.0691.
