PlayStation introduces user ratings in the PS Store

It looks like PlayStation is introducing user ratings on the PS Store.

In a thread titled “Since when does PlayStation allow written reviews?” an observant PS5 owner on the PlayStation subreddit pointed out that the company invites user reviews for a select number of games.

Fans have long been able to rate games from zero to five out of five stars, but this is the first time players have been asked to provide a written review.

According to some respondents, PlayStation.com sends emails to players inviting them to share their opinions on a handful of games, including Helldivers 2, Fortnite, Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Since when does PlayStation allow written reviews? Currently, this only seems to be allowed for a few games on the store pages.

Some commentators say the success of user reviews varies, with many emphasizing the usefulness of Valve’s tracking of how many hours a player has played so far and how much they have played at the time of submitting the review.

Currently, this feature seems to be limited to a handful of games. To participate, you must have a digital copy of the game, and reviews can also only be submitted through the PlayStation.com website. However, as some players note, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it can be quite a tedious task to write a full review using only a controller.

Interestingly, Valve also recently announced that it would be shaking up its review methods by introducing a new filtering system to help players weed out user reviews they deem not “helpful.”

As one member of the Steam subreddit noted, Valve appears to have briefly activated a “help system” that essentially blocked out joke or silly reviews.
