Bills are criticized for allowing ANOTHER rising star to land with the Chiefs as rookie Xavier Worthy debuts with two TDs, seven years after Buffalo helped Patrick Mahomes move to Kansas City

Patrick Mahomes found his way to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 through a fateful draft-day trade with the Buffalo Bills. Seven years later, the Bills again traded the Chiefs in the first round, only to see another rising offensive star land in Kansas City.

This time it’s rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who scored two touchdowns and totaled 68 yards on one rush and two receptions in his debut on Thursday – a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Now, frustrated NFL fans are venting their frustrations about the fastest player in Scouting Combine history (4.21 seconds for the 40-yard dash) joining the league’s most feared offense. And much of that criticism is aimed at Bills general manager Brandon Beane, who was hired in Buffalo a month after the trade that landed Mahomes in Kansas City.

“Brandon Beane is smarter than everyone!!!” one fan joked about X. “Okay, other news: Xavier Worthy scored an easy touchdown.”

“Oh wow imagine that Brandon Beane,” wrote another.

“The Buffalo Bills cheated the entire NFL by allowing the Chiefs to draft Xavier Worthy,” added one fan. “This will be a mistake that will haunt Buffalo for years to come and will seriously damage the entire league. Worthy’s speed is just absurd.”

Many of the replies simply repeated the same old memes that X-users have come to expect: a smoking Ben Affleck, a crying Sydney Sweeney, and a series of photos of one person or animal staring at another person or animal.

“How other teams are looking at the Bills (right now), knowing that the pick they traded to KC turned into Xavier Worthy,” read one of those posts, in which one driver stares at another behind the wheel.

Retired Houston Texans legend JJ Watt put it quite bluntly: “Xavier Worthy is fast as the plague. Good God.”

Mahomes was famously drafted by the Chiefs in 2017 after Kansas City traded the 27th and 91st picks and a 2018 first-round pick for the Bills’ 10th overall pick. The Bills ended up acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White, receiver Zay Jones and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds with the help of that deal.

Of course, Mahomes has beaten the Bills in three memorable playoff duels since being drafted by the Chiefs.

There is a certain logic to Beane’s decision to make the deal.

Yes, the Bills could have stayed at No. 28 in the first round and simply taken Worthy himself. However, the team selected another wideout, Keon Coleman, five picks later, suggesting Buffalo’s front office preferred the Florida State product.

And while it remains to be seen whether Coleman or Worthy will end up being the better NFL player, Beane’s trade allowed Buffalo to trade a fourth-round pick to Kansas City for a third-round pick. Ultimately, the Bills would use that third-round pick on Duke defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, who could provide much-needed depth along the line.

“There are other moving parts, but the #Bills 28 trade to KC was basically Xavier Worthy for Keon
