The Georgia football team’s schedule will be more demanding in 2024

The Georgia Bulldogs entered the 2024 college football season with arguably one of the toughest schedules in the sport. With five top-25 opponents on the list and three road games against top-5 opponents, there was a lot of good reason to claim the toughest schedule.

But just a week into the college football season, it’s safe to say that the Georgia football team’s schedule has become even more demanding.

The hype surrounding the Tennessee quarterback is REAL
Tennessee has actually fallen flat on its face against the University of Georgia the last two seasons. They entered the game with a lot of offensive hype and expectations, but were slowed down by Georgia’s defense. This year might be different when looking at the first week of football season. Former five-star Nico Iamaleava completed 78.2% of his passes against UTC and threw for 314 yards and 3 TDs… in one half. Additionally, in the bowl win against the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iamaleava showed he can run the football, which will be needed to beat that Georgia defense in 2024. After a week, however, it’s undeniable that the November matchup against Tennessee has become even more interesting.

Ole Miss did what?
Jaxson Dart had 418 yards passing against Furman on Saturday…in the first half of the football game. Yes, it’s Furman, but Ole Miss’ offense is a real force behind Dart, it seems, just a week into the football season. Dart is playing his third season with the Rebels and has a whole host of weapons in his corner despite losing Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State. Additionally, Ole Miss’ coveted transfer portal additions also seemed to shine on the defensive side of the ball. They had 4.0 sacks in the game and 16.0 total TFLs.

Alabama on the run
On offense, Alabama had very few negative possessions on Saturday. If this were an offense just introduced for the first time in spring practice, there were few signs of that. QB Jalen Milroe showed why he is one of the most dynamic and fearsome defensive players in this conference. Milroe averaged 28.5 yards per pass on Saturday and also added a 40-yard run to the scoresheet. Most importantly, he engineered nearly a half-dozen quarterback runs during the game. If Jalen Milroe carries the ball 10 times against WKU in one half of key snaps… he’s going to get a lot of work to do in competitive football games this season.

Texas didn’t need the RB room
Steve Sarkisian is one of the most innovative offensive minds in college football, as was evident Saturday in Austin, Texas. Granted, it was Colorado State, but Sarkisian had to establish some running game all year long, even without CJ Baxter. He scattered 41 running attempts to 9 different Texas Longhorns. So, yes, you may not need to prepare for CJ Baxter in the Texas running game this season, but you apparently need to prepare for the entire roster.
