Advance voter turnout in Kansas exceeds 500,000

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced voter turnout estimates for the Nov. 5 general election that show more than half a million Kansans have already made their voices heard through early voting.

As of Friday, November 1, the Secretary of State reported 516,776 pre-cast ballots, a voter turnout of 25.4% so far. At this point in 2020, Schwab noted in its report that 42,724 early votes have been cast, compared to 375,857 in 2016. In Kansas, early voting ends at noon on Monday, November 4th.

For those voting by mail, mail-in ballots must be postmarked in advance by Election Day and received at your county elections office no later than next Friday, November 8th.

“As we compare this year’s early voting data to the 2020 and 2016 elections, remember that the 2020 cycle was unusual due to the pandemic. Take this year with a grain of salt,” Schwab said.

Looking at voter turnout in the previous two presidential elections, voter turnout in Kansas was 71% in 2020 and 67% in 2016, Schwab reported. He noted that voter turnout this year is likely to exceed that of 2016 and 2020.

“We are on track to set a record, so I encourage every voter to go out and exercise their constitutional right,” Schwab said.
