Adventures in Gameland crawls out of its playpen on September 10

There are a lot of Rugrats games from early CD-ROM games to the Nintendo 64, but there was never one that really stood out. The MIX Games, Wallride and Limited Run Games may have given us the definitive Rugrats Play with Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland The release is scheduled for September 10th on Steam and on both current and previous generation consoles.

The new Throwback Rugrats game was announced almost exactly last year. Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland looks like it’s inspired by the classic NES platformers that provided fun and frustration (funstration?) in your childhood. The game comes in two modes: HD mode with graphics that look just like Nicktoon, and a special 8-bit mode that looks like it came out on a retro console.

You can play as Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil as you traverse the Pickles house. The babies act like their home has turned into its own video game, which might be the cutest meta thing ever.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland can be played in solo or two-player co-op mode. Limited Run Games is also releasing the game on orange and classic gray NES cartridges, but you’ve missed your chance to buy one because they’re already sold out.
