Agatha All Along – First reaction praises Kathryn Hahn’s Marvel return

Kathryn Hahn has made her big return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the witch Agatha Harkness and the press seems to be thrilled. “Agatha All Along,” the nine-part sequel series to 2021’s “WandaVision,” is described in initial reactions as “incredibly entertaining” and an “enchanting sequel.”

“The Movie Podcast” host Daniel Baptista called Hahn’s performance “riveting” and “deliciously devious.”

“(‘Agatha All Along’) is the PERFECT show for spooky season and is filled with HUGE WITCH ENERGY,” Baptista wrote on X/Twitter. “Kathryn Hahn is iconic as ever and delivers a wonderfully devious and captivating performance. Joe Locke steals the show. You won’t have this much fun at any show this year.”

Michael Patterson of Bam Smack Pow said the series was “absolutely crazy – crazy in all the right ways.”

“Kathryn Hahn is a force to be reckoned with, playing Agatha Harkness as we all expected,” Patterson wrote on X. “The rest of the cast is divine, too, and Joe Locke is a gem. Lively, extroverted, and brilliant.”

Many viewers also praised the performances of Joe Locke and Aubrey Plaza in “Agatha All Along.”

“The first 4 episodes are a wonderful mix of ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’, with a touch of horror and plenty of comedy,” wrote Joseph Deckelmeier of ScreenRant on X. “This show is insanely entertaining and engaging. It has the same captivating atmosphere as ‘WandaVision.’ I love the ensemble cast that portrays the coven, and Kathryn Hahn is brilliant and Aubrey Plaza is outstanding.”

“Marvel has outdone themselves with (‘Agatha All Along’)!” said Cody Schultz of FanSided. “It’s an absolutely charming sequel to WandaVision with plenty of fun Easter eggs for fans. Kathryn Hahn’s performance is perfect, Joe Locke is iconic, and the entire ensemble is spectacular. One of Marvel’s best films!”

“Agatha All Along” follows on from the events of “WandaVision,” in which Agatha (Hahn) was left powerless thanks to Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). On a mission to regain her magical powers, Agatha forms her own makeshift circle, but not all members have the same intention. Hahn is supported in “Agatha” by Locke, Patti LuPone, Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn and Debra Jo Rupp. “WandaVision” showrunner Jac Schaeffer is behind the spin-off.

Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, recently appeared on the Official Marvel Podcast and said that Agatha All Along will only be fun until it starts to scare viewers.

“‘Agatha’ is really fun, but it’s also really scary. And it gets pretty dramatic,” revealed Winderbaum. “She’s an incredible anti-heroine. She lures you in with the fun of Halloween and before you know it, you’re crying.”

“It’s a Marvel-style horror show. It’s a Halloween show,” he added. “This show is about deadly missions. It’s a fun but dangerous journey.”

The first two episodes of “Agatha All Along” will air on Disney+ on September 18. The series will air until October 30.
