Another pistol seized at Pittsburgh Airport

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — Allegheny County police seized a .380-caliber handgun at Pittsburgh International Airport’s main security checkpoint Monday after Transportation Security Administration officials alerted them to the weapon.

This was the 28th weapon seized at the airport this year, with the record being 44 weapons last year.

When TSA officers spotted the firearm, the screening lane was halted until police responded and removed the carry-on bag from the x-ray machine. Police confiscated the firearm and charged the woman, a Florida resident, with possession of a firearm.

Meanwhile, other travelers had to wait in line until the incident was resolved, preventing them from passing through the checkpoint and getting to their gate in time during the daily peak travel period.

“It is concerning that travelers continue to bring their weapons to our checkpoints,” said Aren Keys-Turner, TSA’s federal airport security director, in a press release.

“While I am proud of the vigilance of our officers, I am disappointed that weapons
Owners continue to bring their firearms to our checkpoints. Responsible gun owners always know where their firearms are, and they know not to bring them to a checkpoint.”
