Artist model honors 160-year-old jewelry store in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – A local resident built a model of Schnack’s Fine Jewelry out of matchsticks to honor the store’s long history. This project helps local residents appreciate the business that has been a part of their community for so long.

Schnack’s Fine Jewelry has been an important part of Cenla for over 160 years and continues to enjoy great popularity.

Floyd Johnson surprised the shop owners with the detailed model, which bears his motto: “Take care of those who take care of you.”

Bill Cartens, the store owner, was touched by the gesture.

“When I first saw the model, I didn’t know what it was. But when I got closer and saw the details, like the bell tower, I was blown away,” he said. “It means a lot to us that someone would go to so much trouble to celebrate our family business.”

Johnson said, “Some people understand the value of life by caring for others. Never burn your bridges, because once you burn a bridge, you can’t cross it. Always keep your connections strong.”

William Cartens, a fellow store owner, echoed this sentiment, saying, “It feels good when someone does this for us. It shows that we care about our community, and when they give back, it’s a special feeling. We really appreciate it.”

To know who really supports you, says Johnson, you ultimately have to know the people who are behind you.
