Augusta County Fire-Rescue receives grant from Columbia Gas of Virginia

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – Volunteer fire departments across Virginia have been selected to receive grants from Columbia Gas of Virginia.

Several agencies in Augusta County have been selected as recipients of the funds. Stephanie Benson, spokeswoman for Columbia Gas of Virginia, said the grants are designed to help agencies ensure safety in their communities and they have a long history of working with fire and emergency services.

“Virginia’s volunteer fire departments are an important partner for us when it comes to natural gas and emergency response, and we are very pleased to be able to help sustain their mission,” Benson said.

Augusta County Fire-Rescue received $1,500 from the grant. Several agencies in Augusta County also received funds. These agencies include Dooms Volunteer Fire Company, Verona Volunteer Fire Company, Weyers Cave Volunteer Fire Department, Swoope Volunteer Fire Company and Stuarts Draft Volunteer Fire Company.

ACFR CEO M. Greg Schacht said the agency values ​​its partnership with Columbia Gas of Virginia and the funds will help purchase new equipment and provide training.

“They have always been a great partner in helping us gather information or provide training, such as with this grant,” Schacht said.

Benson said the grants would be provided through the parent company’s philanthropic organization, the NiSource Charitable Foundation.
