Baltimore Ravens pay emotional tribute to Jacoby Jones

Baltimore Ravens pay emotional tribute to Jacoby Jones

After the tough last few months, it was clear that the Baltimore Ravens’ first home game would be an emotional day.

In July, former Ravens wide receiver and returner Jacoby Jones, the hero of the team’s 47th Super Bowl run, tragically died in his hometown of New Orleans. Current and former Ravens players and those outside the organization paid their respects to Jones with an outpouring of condolences, but the pain of his death is still fresh two months later.

Before Sunday’s home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Ravens paid an emotional tribute to Jones in front of Baltimore fans. With a two-minute video highlighting some of his greatest moments as a Raven and his friends and teammates in attendance, it was an emotional scene at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens already held a moment of silence in honor of Jones before their season opener on August 9, but this is another opportunity to pay their final respects to a franchise hero.

Jones, who turned 40 just three days before his death, played nine NFL seasons for four different teams, but is best known for his 2012 postseason performance with Baltimore. With Jones scoring three touchdowns in four games, all of which were hugely important, it’s fair to say the Ravens wouldn’t even come close to the Super Bowl without him.

In addition, the Ravens also paid tribute to the late offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris, who passed away last month at the age of 70. D’Alessandris served as the Ravens’ offensive line coach since 2017 and was one of the most respected coaches in the building throughout his tenure.

The Ravens have already announced that this season will be all about Jones and D’Alessandris and have even introduced a special helmet sticker with both of their names.

Baltimore leads Las Vegas 3-0 in the first quarter.
