Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt on Commanders: “Good college offense”

Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt on Commanders: “Good college offense”

The Kingsbury joke is the most inflammatory remark. Taylor-Britt is not wrong about what the Commanders have asked of Daniels in two games.

Of the rookie’s 53 pass attempts, 41.2% were from behind the line of scrimmage, according to Next Gen Stats, the highest rate in the NFL (second is Tua Tagovailoa at 37.1%). Only 3.9% of Daniels’ passes were long attempts (20+ air yards), which matches the Patriots’ Jacoby Brissett in NFL rate earlier in the week (Daniels is 0-2 long pass attempts).

Coach Dan Quinn himself noted after Week 1 that he would expect the rookie to keep the passing plays alive before running.

It’s a process for rookies entering the NFL. Daniels was the best of the three starters in year one, showing the ability to make things happen with his legs and get the ball out quickly in Kingsbury’s offense without making big mistakes. There’s certainly room for improvement, especially in the mid- and deep game. Nothing in Taylor-Britt’s comments suggests he’s disparaging Daniels’ talent.

Taylor-Britt’s comments will get attention not because he has said something inaccurate about the Commanders’ offense so far, but because he provided an answer that went beyond the tired cliches. If anything, CTB is preparing for a post-football career as an analyst.
