Billionaire and Telegram CEO Pavel Durov arrested at French airport

Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov was detained by authorities at an airport in France. A translated report by TFI Info states that the founder was detained at Le Bourget airport in Paris on his way back from Azerbaijan. He was accompanied by a woman and his bodyguards.

In particular, an arrest warrant was issued against the CEO by the French National Directorate of Criminal Investigation (OFMIN). And the crux of the matter was that the arrest warrant was due to a lack of cooperation with law enforcement authorities. In addition, the CEO is also accused of aiding and abetting sexual crimes, fraud and drug trafficking.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Durov has run into trouble with law enforcement agencies. The Telegram CEO had made headlines for not cooperating with Russian authorities on his previous founder’s application – VK, a Russian social media and networking service. The founder had refused to censor content and provide the government with information about its users, which ultimately led to him leaving the company.
