Bodycam footage shows police responding quickly after three people were shot at a gas station in Miami – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – A recently released bodycam video shows the police’s quick response after shots were fired inside a gas station convenience store.

Miami police responded to a double homicide and triple shooting in a Chevron car on Northwest 17th Avenue on April 13.

Bodycam footage obtained exclusively by 7News shows officers arriving at the scene of a bloody night in Miami.

“We need a total of three rescue operations here. We have three victims,” an officer said over the police radio.

Surveillance video from inside the store shows the two store owners being murdered after they got into an argument with the gunman.

The victims were identified as 51-year-old Shahbaz Hussain and 42-year-old Shamun Shaukat. They died at the scene.

According to police, the shooter was being confronted about shoplifting when he pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The video shows a third victim, 57-year-old Elijah Shorter, being treated by first responders and taken to the hospital.

“One of the units applied a tourniquet to one of the victims,” an officer who responded said over police radio.

Witnesses told police that the shooting was captured on surveillance video.

“It’s on camera because those cameras work,” said one witness.

Witnesses and customers who were at the scene did their best to help.

“I took all the money and put it in a safe,” a witness told police.

“She was in the process of resuscitating one of the victims and then put all the money in the safe for her,” said an officer who answered the call.

Local residents responded to the shooting at the gas station.

“Yo, there were a lot of shots fired at the gas station,” said one man.

They gave police information about where the suspect had gone.

“They say the guy ran over here to the building over there,” said one resident.

“Yes, we are putting that together right now. We will probably send a group of different officers there now,” the officer told the resident.

People who knew the two shop owners said they were popular with their customers.

“They are like family,” one person said.

“They were incredible people. They helped you when you were hungry. They gave you food when you didn’t have enough, and you didn’t have to worry about paying them back,” said local resident Kathleen Quinn.

Police arrested 24-year-old Jason Dyer Mitchell after finding him in a building where he appeared to be living, just steps from the Chevron where the shooting occurred.

But this is not the first time that Dyer Mitchell has come into conflict with the law.

In January 2022, police said, Dyer Mitchell was arrested on Lincoln Road after allegedly injuring a tourist with a long, sharp nail.

Two years later he struck again, this time with a gun.

Police found a gun in his apartment that they believe he used in the gas station murders.

The rest of this horror story is told by photos from the crime scene, most of which are too graphic to show on camera.

A local resident described the crime scene and gave some advice for life.

“One minute you’re here, the next you’re gone,” said one resident.

Dyer Mitchell is charged with attempted murder and premeditated murder.

He remains in the Miami-Dade County Jail awaiting trial.
