According to airport authorities, casual remarks about bombs or explosives are taken seriously and can lead to severe consequences. Kumar’s remark sparked immediate concern and prompted the airport security team to thoroughly inspect his cabin and checked baggage using bomb detection devices. Fortunately, no threat was found and Kumar was then handed over to the police for further investigation.
Following the incident, a bomb alert committee was convened at 7:25 a.m. to assess the situation. The committee classified the threat as “unspecific,” meaning that while it was not credible, it still required extensive security measures. The committee concluded its meetings at 8:00 a.m. However, the flight departed on time.
As Independence Day approaches, Kochi Airport has issued an alert urging passengers to arrive well in advance of their scheduled flight to accommodate possible delays due to increased security measures.
This incident occurred shortly after a similar incident on August 7, when a passenger named Prashanth from T’puram made a remark about a bomb during an enhanced security check, leading to additional checks and delays in departure.
Prasanth was later handed over to Nedumbassery police.
