Bruins coach gives updates on two injured strikers

BOSTON — Neither Elias Lindholm nor Morgan Geekie skated on the ice Sunday, but Bruins coach Jim Montgomery didn’t seem worried about either as he spoke before his team’s exhibition game against the New York Rangers at TD Garden.

Neither player was on the roster for Sunday’s first exhibition game against the Rangers at TD Garden, but it would have been unlikely that they would have been there even if they were 100 percent healthy, as the Bruins had a roster with few players likely to open the season on the first-team roster.

Geekie left Saturday’s Black and Gold Game, the team’s intramural practice game at Amica Pavilion in Providence, due to an unspecified injury.

Montgomery assumed he would be fine.

“Just a day of maintenance,” he said.

Lindholm missed Friday’s practice with an unspecified injury. Montgomery played it down at the time, but Lindholm was not on the ice Saturday in Providence and did not skate Sunday.

“He’ll run tomorrow to see where he stands,” Montgomery said. “We expect him back on Tuesday.”

Practice time should be valuable for both players. Lindholm will likely play on a line with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha, making the chance to build chemistry valuable. Geekie’s versatility could earn him one of several spots in the lineup.
