Bucs starter out after concussion in duel against Commanders

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense started the 2024 season strong. Hosting the Washington Commanders, the Buccaneers had a chance to gain momentum early in the season while facing rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

After allowing just one goal in the first half, the Buccaneers went into the break with a 16-7 lead. However, Tampa Bay lost a defender along the way. Defensive back Zyon McCollum suffered a concussion in the first half and will miss the rest of the game.

The 2022 fifth-round pick recorded one tackle, which will be his total for the season opener. Bryce Hall will take his starting role and play alongside Jamel Dean for the remainder of the contest.

McCollum has played in 31 career games – including the opening game against the Commanders – and has defended 10 passes, while he is still waiting for his first interception. However, the 25-year-old cornerback will not be able to do so in the opening game.

Hall brings five years of experience to the position as the Buccaneers look to keep Washington at bay in the second half of the contest.
