Caden Durham, former Texas high school football star, has made his breakthrough with the LSU Tigers

Caden Durham bounced off and evaded countless defenders on his way to becoming the best high school running back in Texas.

It didn’t take long for the former Duncanville star player to break through on the college stage.

Durham, SBLive’s first-team All-Texas running back in 2023, showed a familiar spark and outstanding running performance in LSU’s home-and-away road win over South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

Durham managed eleven runs for 98 yards and two touchdowns in his third college football game.

With LSU trailing 17-0 in the second quarter, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound freshman took a handoff up the middle, charged past three collapsing defenders, fended off a tight tackle and dove through a tackle with his arms outstretched to cross the touchdown plane.

For Durham, who is ranked low in the rankings, it was one of two touchdown runs in his second-ever college football game and the best yardage of any LSU player this season through three games.

He didn’t have a single run in LSU’s narrow loss to USC in Las Vegas in Week 1. He had four runs for five yards in a blowout win over Nicholls State in Week 2.

Durham was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but played his high school football career in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for one of the state’s most famous teams.

He helped Duncanville win two state championships in the UIL 6A Division I. In his senior year, Durham ran for 2,027 yards and 35 touchdowns.
