Caleb Williams “a little shaken” after Sunday night’s defeat

The Bears scored their first offensive touchdown of the season on Sunday night in Houston, but it was still a long night for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

Williams was sacked seven times and hit 11 times in the 19-13 loss to the Texans. He was under pressure many other times as the Texans blitzed relentlessly, leading to interceptions on consecutive second-half drives and the Bears had four three-and-outs throughout the night.

After the game, Williams was reserved when asked about the beating he took from the Texans defense.

“A something hurt” Williams said, via Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports. “You know, I took a couple hits today. I’m going to get in the ice tub and do whatever I need to do to make sure my body is ready for tomorrow, practice the other days and obviously the next game.”

Head coach Matt Eberflus said the protection issues are “everyone’s” and cited improvements in the running game as another way to make life easier for the rookie quarterback. The changes need to happen quickly because other teams will follow the same plan as Houston until the Bears show they can handle it better than they did Sunday.
