Car crashes into store, one person injured – NBC 6 South Florida

A driver was taken to the hospital after crashing into a store at an Aventura mall on Thursday.

Miami-Dade Fire Department responded to a white 4DR Audi sedan crashing into the JDO Couture Dress Shop in the Promenade Shops at 20475 Biscayne Blvd.

The driver, a 63-year-old woman, was later taken away on a stretcher. Aventura police said she was taken to the hospital for further evaluation but did not provide further information on her condition.

“All I can remember is the sound, and like I said, I thought it was like a gas bomb, a gas explosion. That was the sound… a huge bang,” said a witness who was getting her nails done next door at the time of the crash.

A woman who identified herself as the store owner said no one was in the store at the time of the accident.

“We were very lucky that we opened a little later so we didn’t see the impact,” she said.

While police cordoned off the crime scene, broken glass, overturned mannequins and merchandise lay scattered on the ground.

“I was in shock. It’s horrible and I hope the driver is OK,” the owner added. “Unfortunately, a lot of people drive wrong here in Aventura and I wish people would just pay a little more attention. Thank God no one was hurt, seriously.”

The cause of the collision was initially unknown.
