CFD: Two officers among three injured in major fire in Charlotte Airport parking garage

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two police officers are among three people injured in a Level 2 fire in a parking deck at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, a second alarm was raised for a fire at 5488 Josh Birmingham Parkway. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and fire rising from the parking deck.

Queen City News learned that four cars on the fourth floor of the parking deck were damaged.

One of the injured officers was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries; the other officer and a civilian were treated and released at the scene.

As of 10:17 a.m., Charlotte Airport announced that all parking lots and roads except for the 4th floor of the Hourly Deck have reopened. As a precautionary measure, the area above the affected area on the 5th floor is also closed to passengers.

Officials assumed that the fire had broken out as a result of an accident in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles.

A total of four vehicles were damaged, with damage estimated at $105,000.
