Chaffee County Public Health announces special activities at Embracing Aging Expo 2024: “Sentimental Swap Shop” and “Workshop on Supporting People in Critical Moments”

Chaffee County, CO – The Chaffee County Health Department is pleased to highlight two unique and meaningful activities designed to foster connection, compassion and community among older adults at this year’s Embracing Aging Expo, scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.

Sentimental Swap Shop: Connecting through precious memories

Do you have a treasured keepsake with a story to tell? The Sentimental Swap Shop offers Expo attendees a special opportunity to connect with one another by exchanging small, sentimental items and sharing the soulful stories behind them. Whether it’s a piece of jewelry, a beloved photograph, or a memento from a special trip, attendees are invited to bring a meaningful item they would like to give as a gift. This activity is not just about exchanging items; it’s about celebrating the moments and memories that enrich and fulfill our lives. The Sentimental Swap Shop is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, share beautiful stories, and celebrate the meaningful connections that make us who we are.

Workshop: Giving and receiving support in critical moments of life

Getting through life’s most difficult times can be difficult, both for those affected and for the loved ones who want to support them. In the workshop entitled “Giving and Receiving Support in Critical Moments in Life,” experts Aimee Kandrac and Ashley Parsons guide participants through the complexities of giving and receiving support in difficult times. This workshop offers practical tips and insights into the emotional world we experience in critical moments in life. Participants receive valuable tools to better support loved ones in need.

and seek help when faced with their own challenges, thereby fostering a stronger, more compassionate community.

These activities are part of a broader effort by the Chaffee County Health Department to provide opportunities for older adults to connect, learn and receive support. The Embracing Aging Expo is designed to provide attendees with the resources they need to live healthy, independent lives while fostering a strong sense of community.
