Chauncy Glover, KCBS/KCAL news anchor, dies at 39

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Chauncy Glover, a news anchor for Los Angeles television stations KCBS and KCAL, has died at the age of 39.

The death was announced Tuesday on KCAL. The cause of death was not revealed.

“We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon in our lives and a true hero for his community.” Chauncy’s compassion and commitment to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, have changed countless lives and so many young ones “Inspired men to pursue their dreams who knew him, and without him the world is bleaker,” the family said in a statement.

According to his official profile page, Glover co-hosted with Pat Harvey on both of the duopoly’s stations and co-hosted with Suzie Suh on KCAL.

Glover joined KCAL News in October 2023 after eight years at KABC-TV’s sister station KTRK-TV in Houston.

At KTRK, he started as a weekend morning anchor and was promoted to main evening anchor in 2018.

Chauncy “caught the news bug at the age of five when his father built him his very own mini ‘anchor desk’ for his newscasts, which he performed for his family every Sunday after church,” according to his KTRK biography. He later studied broadcast journalism, music and theater at Troy University in Alabama.

In particular, Chauncy created a mentoring program for young men. He started the Chauncy Glover Project, which aims to teach young men kindness and leadership skills. CGP is proud to have sent more than 350 boys to college and mentored more than 1,000 young men.

Prior to his time in Houston, he worked at WDIV in Detroit, Michigan; WTVM in Columbus, Georgia; and CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Florida. Chauncy studied broadcast journalism, music and theater at Troy University.

Glover received three Emmys, among other professional awards.
