LONDON (AP) — Cole Palmer scored Chelsea’s winner against Newcastle in the Premier League, but a pass he provided for his team’s other goal was the talk of the town on Sunday.

When the 22-year-old English playmaker saw his own goal in the Chelsea half, he spun and curled a 50-yard pass past Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento for winger Pedro Neto to shoot clear.

Neto then crossed to Nicolas Jackson to give Chelsea the lead in the 18th minute.

“That’s why people pay to see a player like that,” said Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca. “We are very lucky to have him.”

Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher, working as a pundit for British broadcaster Sky Sports, called it “one of the best passes I’ve ever seen in the Premier League.”

Alexander Isak equalized for Newcastle, but Palmer scored his seventh goal of the season in the 47th minute to give Chelsea a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

With five assists, Palmer has scored a league-best 12 goals this season. Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last season, he has been involved in 45 goals in 42 league games.
