Notes

Intuit Open for Business: While the Clippers’ much-hyped new arena, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, has been active as a concert and event venue for months, tonight will mark the first time it will serve its primary purpose – as a basketball stadium. True Clippers fans will be in Intuit watching the Clippers play basketball (even if it’s still preseason), and it’s kind of hard to fathom that this is all finally happening years and years after the announcement. We’re all hoping that the Clippers will finally have their own space and not have to share space with the Lakers (and the Kings and Sparks), which will help them further expand their brand and establish their identity, and it all starts today Evening.

Is Ty improving the minutes: So far, Ty Lue has been pretty careful about not using key players like James Harden, Nic Batum and Ivica Zubac more than once or twice in the first half, while the second half has been dominated by the second line, third string and Training camp players. Some coaches stick to this pattern throughout preseason and never do a full “dress rehearsal,” so to speak, while others (notably Tom Thibodeau) are good at playing starters for longer than 30 minutes. It will be interesting to see if Ty continues to play just a few minutes against older veterans or if he wants to take a longer look at his “real” rotations and lineups in this game.
