Colbert brutally pokes fun at GOP candidate Mark Robinson’s porn addiction

North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson came under fire this week for allegedly being a frequent customer at his local porn shop, where the clerk even knew him by name and remembered him decades later.

The news wouldn’t be a big deal if he weren’t running on a strongly evangelical Christian platform. Although Robinson denies the allegations, the scandal caught Stephen Colbert’s attention during his monologue on Wednesday.

“A North Carolina news site reports that Robinson went to a porn shop almost every day in the ’90s and early 2000s,” Colbert said. “Of course, you have to go every day or you won’t get the latest porn. It’s not like they refrigerate the stuff.”

Colbert marveled at the sheer persistence of Robinson’s apparent porn addiction, noting, “He almost went everyone day for over a decade. I do not anything almost every day for a decade. Mark Robinson went to the porn shop more regularly than I flossed.”

“Robinson wasn’t just window shopping,” Colbert noted. “The same report says that over the years, Robinson Hundreds of pirated porn videos … I’m talking Armageddon is tonight, Pulp frictionand of course Sex toy history. Surprisingly, the title song is also ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’.”

The jokes came after Colbert called Robinson a “climate denier, a Holocaust denier” and someone who “longs for a return to the America where women didn’t get to vote” to his audience. Other late-night hosts, such as John Oliver, have also vilified Robinson for his far-right agenda.

Of Robinson, Colbert added that it was “really, really shocking that Trump didn’t pick him for vice president.”
