The College Station City Council gives the green light to the nearly $21 million redevelopment of a planned baseball field complex.

Due to poor soil quality off Rock Prairie Road in Texas Independence Park, the council unanimously supported a new master plan that calls for more passive uses, according to Parks and Recreation Director Kelsey Heiden.

The park will include College Station’s first 18-hole disc golf course. The park will also include hiking and biking trails.

There will also be a fishing pond, green spaces for spontaneous games and what Heiden describes as a “destination play experience.”

The council directed staff to solicit proposals to complete the designs, which were developed by an outside firm and Texas A&M students with public participation.

The funding sources and construction schedule for the various features have yet to be decided.

The council’s approval of the master plan coincided with the completion of a toilet building.
