College Station man arrested for alleged sexual abuse

College Station police arrested a man earlier this month and charged him with repeated sexual abuse of a child: victim under the age of 14, according to a College Station police suspicion report.

According to the report, 23-year-old Stelton Wendrick Govan II was charged with years of sexual abuse of three girls, all of whom were under the age of 14 at the time of the alleged crimes.

The alleged abuse was committed against the two oldest victims between March 1, 2018, and January 17, 2023, police said. The majority of the abuse occurred between 2017 and 2020, when the victims were between 5 and 9 years old, according to police.

The girls’ mother contacted College Station police on January 17, 2023, to report that her children had accused Govan of sexual assault.

According to police, the mother confronted Govan, who denied the allegations.

According to police, the defendant’s younger brother, a minor, confessed to also sexually abusing one of the girls.

According to jail records, Govan is being held at the Brazos County Detention Center and bail is set at $500,000.

Under Texas law, defendants convicted of sexual abuse of a child face consecutive sentences: Victims under the age of 14 face a sentence of 25 to 99 years or life imprisonment for first-time offenders, life imprisonment without parole for repeat offenders.
