FC Bayern: Now it becomes clear how stress-resistant Kompany’s system really is

There has been no rotation at all so far, except in central defence. Dayot Upamecano and Min-Jae Kim are in the starting eleven for every competitive match. With his risky style of play, good coordination in this critical position seems to be particularly important for former central defender Kompany. After major initial difficulties and occasional wobbles in the goalscoring matches against Kiel and Dinamo, the notoriously error-prone Upamecano and Kim worked together smoothly against Werder, which had an impact on the entire defensive work. Or vice versa.

Kompany’s Bayern have already gotten used to the many goals. Oh, and this time five! What was new and probably quite frightening for the opposition in the 5-0 gala against Werder was how little the Munich team conceded. Nothing. 25:0 shots. Bremen actually had an xG value of 0.0. That was exactly what Jamal Musiala pointed to first in his post-match analysis, not his goal or the four others.

Of course, FC Bayern was part of the impressive start under Kompany’s schedule. So far, they have not faced any top-class opponents, even though Bremen had previously been unbeaten. How stress-resistant Kompany’s system really is will soon be seen. In the next four weeks, the two best teams from last year, Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart, await in the Bundesliga, and Aston Villa and FC Barcelona in the Champions League.

With their perfect starts to the season, Ancelotti and Kovac have been good role models for Kompany. But now he should look for new ones: after seven and eight games respectively, they went three and four games in a row without a win. And after less than a year and a half, they were sacked again.
