COOEC delivers “groundbreaking” Marjan oil and gas platform for Aramco project offshore Saudi Arabia

(WO) – On August 12, Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) delivered the Marjan oil and gas gathering and transportation platform ordered by Saudi Aramco. According to the company, the platform is the heaviest and most powerful Chinese-made international offshore oil and gas platform in Qingdao, Shandong. This is a “new breakthrough” in international offshore oil and gas engineering, COOEC reported.

As an 8-leg platform, the Marjan platform is primarily used to collect and transport offshore oil and gas for onshore processing. It has the capacity to collect and transport 24 million tonnes of crude oil and 7.4 billion square metres of natural gas, making it the most powerful offshore crude oil extraction and transport platform in the world.

In addition, it is taller than a 24-story building, weighs over 17,200 tons, and has a deck area equivalent to 15 basketball courts. Compared to its counterparts, the Marjan platform is equipped with the largest and most modern pipelines.

It will be used for Saudi Aramco’s Marjan expansion project. Once commissioned, it will provide the oil field with the largest offshore oil and gas processing capacity in the world.

COOEC is responsible for the construction, commissioning and loading of this highly integrated large-scale platform in accordance with the world’s most stringent standards. To this end, COOEC has developed a self-developed intelligent management platform, created the “integration + visualization” model, and made extensive use of cutting-edge technologies such as automatic composite welding and phased array ultrasonic testing.
