The Australian media had a field day as India suffered a repeat of the infamous Adelaide 36 total.

India’s first innings in Bangalore against New Zealand would have given fans memories of India’s collapse in Adelaide on their previous tour of Australia. With Rishabh Pant top-scoring with 20 and an innings consisting of five batters, the Ducks registered.

Indian fans were reminded of that innings by the brutal series of dismissals on Thursday morning at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where India’s batters were bundled out for 36 runs in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval.

The Australian cricket media was quick to take advantage of the unfortunate innings for India and saw the opportunity to rub some salt into India’s fresh wounds.

Kiwis are wreaking havoc in Bangalore

New Zealand used a similar template that day to tear apart India’s batting order like Australia. The pacers bowled tight lines and lengths and got plenty of grip on the track in Bangalore as it was overcast and damp on the pitch.

Matt Henry was the Kiwis’ star, taking five wickets and returning to haunt India after his man-of-the-match performance in the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup.

He received strong support from Tim Southee who got the game going by bowling Rohit Sharma to take the first wickets in the innings. Will O’Rourke, playing his first game on Indian turf, took the big wicket when he dismissed Virat Kohli with a high-rising bouncer that was caught leg slipping.

New Zealand were also helped by some outstanding performances in this area, creating a few wickets from nothing. Sarfaraz Khan was caught brilliantly by a leaping Devon Conway mid-attack, holding on with one hand. Ajaz Patel also caught a sharp catch at back point and dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal after he and Rishabh Pant put up the highest partnership of the innings.

The game quickly got out of India’s hands as the Kiwis fell into stumps with a lead of 134 runs and seven wickets in hand. A tough defeat looms and India has some questions to answer as they prepare for the difficult conditions in Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
