Crystal Palace’s Trevoh Chalobah will miss the game against Leicester City due to an abdominal injury

Trevoh Chalobah will have to wait to make his debut for Crystal Palace after suffering an abdominal injury in his first training session.

The 25-year-old defender joined Palace on a season-long loan from Chelsea on the last day of the transfer window.

However, his injury will see him miss his side’s match against Leicester City at Selhurst Park on Saturday, and he could also miss Palace’s subsequent games in the League Cup against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday, as well as their next Premier League game against Manchester United next Saturday.

Glasner said: “He (Chalobah) injured his abdominal muscle in his first session with us. It’s a really strange injury. He won’t be available tomorrow either. It won’t be long. His participation for QPR and Man United is also doubtful.”

His Palace defender colleague Chadi Riad will also have to take a break for a while due to a knee injury.

The 21-year-old, who joined the club from Real Betis during the summer transfer window, sustained the injury in Palace’s 4-0 League Cup win over Norwich City in August.

“The doctor tells us it will be 8 to 12 weeks, so it will take some time,” Glasner said. “We all thought it would be worse in the beginning, but the anterior cruciate ligament is not torn and that is important.”

Brazilian striker Matheus Franca is close to returning to training after not playing since March due to a broken rib.
